On 20 March, we will be releasing Volumes 5 & 6 of our Archipelago EPs, featuring Circle Meets Dot and Henry & Fleetwood.
For those of you who aren't already up to speed, the Archipelago EPs are our collection of musical islands that we have been releasing over the past few months. Thanks to funding we received from Creative Scotland, we were able to give six new acts the opportunity to go into the studio to record an EP for us. Back in August 2019, we brought you Volumes 1 and 2, which featured Chrissy Barnacle and Jared Celosse. Volumes 3 & 4 followed in November, as we introduced the world to the delights of Pocket Knife and Moonsoup.
As Nelly Furtado once sang, all good things must come to an end, but in true Olive Grove fashion we're bowing out in style as we release Volumes 5 & 6 (in what will currently be the final release in the series), featuring Circle Meets Dot (aka our very own Jo Mango and A. Wesley Chung from The Great Albatross) and Henry & Fleetwood (aka Martin from De Rosa and Gillian from our every own State Broadcasters).
Hand on heart, both EPs are nothing short of incredible. We have been big fans of all of the artists for several years now. You will probably already be aware of how much love we have for Jo Mango - just look at all the crazily brilliant/fun/out there EPs that we've released with her over the past few years. We wouldn't do that if we didn't love what she does. She's one magical lady. As for Wes, we have been BIG fans of his for a number of years now. His 'Asleep In The Kaatskills' album with The Great Albatross is up there as one of our all time favourite albums. If you haven't heard it before, make sure and hunt it out. Anyhow, when we found out that Jo had been on a side project with Wes, we couldn't not try and get them in the studio together - so I guess Circle Meets Dot are partly to blame for this whole crazy Archipelago project.
On the reverse side of Circle Meets Dot's EP, is the majestic Henry & Fleetwood. For those of you with good memories, you may recall that we released their debut EP, 'On The Forest Floor' all the way back in 2015. Man, time sure does fly by. Again, we are massive fans of both Gill and Martin. We've obviously know Gill for a good few years now as she's part of the State Broadcasters, plus she's also recently been moonlighting for the amazing Broken Chanter. Oh and if you haven't checked out her amazing harp playing skills, then you're missing a trick. As for Martin, we've been massive fans of his music after we happened to see him playing De Rosa songs in a library in the suburbs of Glasgow many many moons ago.
In short, we are massive fans of all four of the artists that feature on these last two EPs and we've been pretty blown away by both of them. We're going to be drip feeding you some songs over the next few days, but to start us all of we have something pretty damn special to share with you all, here's the video for 'Ama' from Henry & Fleetwood's Archipelago EP.
Volumes 5 & 6 of the Archipelago EPs will officially be released on 20 March 2020. However, if the vinyl arrives early, then we might just sneak them out a wee bit earlier.
You can of course come and join us at the Glad Cafe on Thursday 5th March, were both Henry & Fleetwood and Circle Meets Dot will be playing live to celebrate the release of their split record.
